2 Things You Can Do To Help Your Child Custody Case

Blog

Getting a divorce is never easy. Dealing with child custody issues can make it even harder. If you have to have deal with child custody issues, you want to make sure that you have a lawyer that can help you with your custody issues. Your attorney may give you some things to do that will make your custody case easier.

Keep a Log

One thing you can do is to keep a log of what happens with your ex when it comes to your child. Write down each time they pick up your child for visitation, if they are late to do that or early to drop them back off to you, if they miss meetings that they should be at, and whatever your child may tell you happened on their visits, especially if it comes to yelling, neglect, or physical abuse. While you can keep your log on your computer or your phone, you should primarily write it in a notebook by hand. You also want to make sure that you write it down immediately. The reason to write it by hand instead of keeping it on your computer is that it's easy to manipulate computer files to change what you said or when things happened. It's harder to do that with something that you wrote by hand. Writing it down immediately keeps your mind from adding additional details.

Talk to an Arbitrator

An arbitrator is a person who is completely neutral and objective. You and your ex will be able to present your cases to the arbitrator and tell them what is going on, what you need, and what you would like to have happen. The arbitrator will take all that information, along with anything that your lawyer may have given them, and come up with a decision. Generally, that decision is a compromise, which is an arrangement that will give each party something they want but make neither part completely happy. The decisions reached by arbitration aren't always legally binding, but a judge will give them a lot of weight when you appear in court, especially if you have done everything you can to uphold your part of the decision. That will put you in a better light when it comes to your custody case.

If you are trying to fight a child custody case, you need to make sure that you listen to a lawyer, such as from Knochel Law Offices PC, and do everything they tell you to.

Investing in Your Children’s Futures

I was blessed to have grown up in a home with loving supportive parents. They both worked extremely hard in order for me and my sister to enjoy a better life than they had. Financially, they bought me a new car when I was sixteen. They also paid for my college expenses. Many parents do the same for their kids. They want to provide for them in the present while safeguarding their futures. One way parents can invest in their kids’ futures is by placing money in trusts that their children can utilize when they reach a certain age. A reputable attorney can establish beneficial trusts for your kids. On this blog, you will learn about the benefits of consulting with an attorney about setting up trusts for your children.
